TEACHING STATEMENT
Many math students, struggling or excelling, have not had all positive mathematics experiences in the past. Edward Frenkel had something to say about this—imagine “students are only taught how to paint a fence and are never shown the paintings of the great masters. When, later on in life, the subject of mathematics comes up, most people wave their hands and say ‘Oh no, I don’t want to hear about this, I was so bad at math.’ What they are really saying is, ‘I was bad at painting the fence.’” This philosophy is what drives a comfortable, open, and collaborative classroom, peppered with lighthearted jokes and pointed questions with the expectation that the group moves forward together based on their responses, in addition to achieving individual goals. This philosophy also goes hand-in-hand with the mission statement of WMW.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to create a collaborative, low-stress environment where students can grow in mathematical confidence and understanding—offering small-group support and value that many tutoring services can’t match.
